Recently, the prices of Chinese local poplar and local white color hardwood veneers / logs have decreased by about 8%. The prices of pink or red color hardwood core veneers have decreased by about 4% . While the prices of hardwood face/back veneers have not decreased noticeably. Because of the reduction of wood prices, plywood prices have decreased accordingly .

Most of exported Chinese plywood & film faced plywood are poplar core . If you import plywood from China, you may achieve the most favorable prices at present .

Usually, as for global plywood market, November, December and January are slow business season . In the past years, even if during slow business season, the prices of wood, plywood & film faced plywood did not decrease . The decrease in prices of plywood, film faced plywood this time is mainly caused by global economical & financial crisis .

However, I don’t think the prices of Chinese local poplar wood and local white color hardwood will noticeably decrease further.

Most of Chinese local poplar and local white color hardwood trees are owned by farmers . The income from poplar and hardwood trees only constitutes a small part of those farmers’ income. If the prices of poplar and white color hardwood are too low, farmers will stop selling their trees .

The prices of pink or red hardwood are more stable than local poplar wood and local white color hardwood .
